Online ticketing, minus the booking fees

Original: Online ticketing, minus the booking fees

It's been several years since we covered Brown Paper Tickets' low-fee ticketing service, but it's apparently still going strong. Now adding a new, even lower-cost alternative for event organizers is Ticket Tailor, which lets anyone sell tickets online without any booking fees.

The standard booking fee for most events is 10 percent of the ticket's face value, and often there's a transaction charge on top of that. London-based Ticket Tailor, on the other hand, abolishes mandatory booking fees altogether. Instead, event organizers users pay a monthly fee ranging from GBP 6 for one event per month and unlimited tickets to GBP 75 for unlimited event listings and tickets. A free version even lets users sell up to 10 tickets for a single monthly event. Either way, those monthly fees earn users the ability to keep all the proceeds from their ticket sales, paid via PayPal. Ticket Tailor lets users set and keep their own booking fees, if they want; it also offers graphs and tables summarizing sales data. The site's interface is completely customizable and brandable, and users each get their own, dedicated web address. Ticket Tailor also integrates with Facebook and offers a website widget for effortless event promotion. Smartphone versions are available to let consumers buy tickets on the go, and e-tickets are delivered via email and SMS.

Given the emergence of services like Brown Paper's and Ticket Tailor's, it seems only a matter of time before the big ticketing companies start to cut their own prices. In the meantime, however, minipreneurs and other small event producers have a growing number of options. As ever, choices are good, but lower-cost choices are even better!
